Romance writers kick off `Operation Happy Ending` for the soldiers fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan during National Veterans Awareness Week

Released on = November 5, 2006, 2:23 pm

Press Release Author = Jina Bacarr

Industry = Entertainment

Press Release Summary = Jina Bacarr, author of The Blonde Geisha, and Deborah
MacGillivray, author of The Restless Knight, have started \"Operation Happy Ending,\"
a project to send romance novels to our men and women fighting overseas in Iraq and
Afghanistan.

Press Release Body = Huntington Beach, CA--It all started with an email.

When Jina Bacarr heard from her friend, Deborah MacGillivray, about a young soldier
home from the war in Iraq for two weeks leave and how he told her how much he loved
reading romance novels, she had to find out more. \"I wanted to know what it was
about romance novels that made our fighting men and women want to read them,\" she
says.

Deborah was only too happy to fill in the details about how she sent the soldier a
box filled with romance novels when he went back to Iraq. \"Soon after I received an
email from him,\" MacGillivray remembers, \"saying that we at home have no idea how
much these books mean to him and his fellow soldiers.\"

Why? Because according to the young soldier\'s email, romance novels encompass many
of the things the men and women are fighting for in Iraq and Afghanistan: Romance,
love, laughter, that special girl or guy, and a happy ending.

The soldier ended his email with, \"You have no idea how important that happy ending
is to us over here.\"

\"When I read that, I knew I had to help,\" says Bacarr. \"So I put together what I
call a Romcast (a video podcast with romance) with a special Veterans Day message.\"
Veterans Day is the perfect time to get the word out, according to the author. The
White House has declared November 11, 2006 as Veterans Day and urges all Americans
to observe November 5 through November 11, 2006 as National Veterans Awareness Week.

Bacarr urges viewers to remember that when the Veterans Day Parades with the
marching bands, floats, and color guards are in full swing, somewhere in Iraq and
Afghanistan a soldier will be on patrol dreaming of coming home.

\"So won\'t you join Deborah and me and help out with what I call \'Operation Happy
Ending?\' \" she asks viewers in her Romcast. \"Send some romance novels to our
soldiers. It means a lot to our fighting men and women overseas. Thank you.\"

MacGillivray adds, \"It will give us all a happy ending when the soldiers come home.\"
